Pirelli has brought new rear solutions just for the WorldSBK round

From Friday 21 to Sunday 23 June 2019, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will host the seventh round of the 2019 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. Pirelli will face the challenge of providing riders with solutions they already know in addition to two new rear tyres, one for the WorldSBK class and one for the WorldSSP class.

In fact, Pirelli continues the new work of developing solutions in bigger sizes that started at the beginning of last year with the aim of creating a complete range in the 125/70 front and 200/65 rear sizes that will complete the current offering in SC0 rear and SC1 front compounds which are already available on the market. As for the WorldSBK class the new development SC0 uses a different compound and construction than the standard SC0 which should ensure better thrust during acceleration allowing greater stability. In WorldSSP, on the other hand, the new development solution in softer compound comes in the increased size 190/60which, compared to the standard size in 180/60, should guarantee greater stability and longer durability.

The Monday after the race weekend, the Romagna Riviera circuit will also host the second Italian running, after Imola, of the Pirelli SBK® Track Days initiative. The day includes track sessions dedicated to motorcyclists who are fans both of Pirelli and SBK® which take place on some of the most fascinating circuits to host the production bike derived series. Riders get the chance to experience the excitement of the Superbike Championship by taking to the track in the wake of their champions.

The Misano round is the turning point for the production derived series which this year has a calendar consisting of thirteen rounds. In WorldSBK Álvaro Bautista with Ducati leads the riders' standings with a 41-point lead over four-time World Champion, Kawasaki rider Jonathan Rea, who this year has struggled to keep up with the Spaniard at his year of debut in the Championship. In the WorldSSP class the Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher leads with a 17-point advantage over team-mate Federico Caricasulo, both riding a Yamaha machine.

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, designed in 1969, began to host sport competitions in 1972 and over the years has been subject to different modernisation works. It currently has a length of 4226 metres, of which 1850 are straight with a finish line of 510 metres, with 10 right-hand and 6 left-hand corners.

In 2015 the circuit was completely resurfaced with a specific asphalt formulation aimed at counteracting the effects of salt and humidity. The rather abrasive asphalt and the high temperatures typical of that area can compromise the precision of the trajectories (holding a line)making it a fairly demanding track for the tyres especially in the long right-hand corners which require a high mechanical and thermal stress for tyres when the bike is leant over, on the tyre shoulder.

The solutions for the WorldSBK and WorldSSP classes:

At Misano Adriatico, for the seventh round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, Pirelli comes with 3755 tyres which includes, as usual, both dry as well as intermediate and wet tyres for all classes.

In WorldSBK, the 125/70 front and 200/65 rear tyres are once again the only ones available to riders for a total of 8 slick solutions; 3 front and 5 rear.Regarding the front options, Pirelli confirms the three solutions already used in Aragón, Assen, Imola and Jerez, that is: the SC1 of the 125/70 range in soft compound and the development SC2 X1071 and X1118 in medium compound.For the rear two solutions have already been utilised plus one new option. Also in this round there will be the standard SC0 200/65 and the development Y0446, which uses the same structure as the standard SC0 but contains a compound more oriented to performance in the event of particularly high asphalt temperatures. As a third option, the new development SC0 Y0518 will be used, which uses the same compound as the Y0446 specification but has a construction which compared to the standard SC0, allows better thrust during acceleration, allowing greater stability.In addition to these three racing solutions, Pirelli confirms the SCX in specification Y0447 as a pre-qualifier tyre and possibly as an alternative for the Tissot Superpole® Race and the supersoft solution for Superpole® in the X0684 specification.

In the WorldSSP class riders will be able to choose between four dry solutions, two front and two rear ones. At the front, as in Aragón, Assen, Imola and Jerez, the standard SC1 is back on the scene, and in this round will be joined by the standard SC2. At the rear in addition to the standard SC0 in standard size (180/60) there will be the new development SC0 Y0410 in a bigger 190/60size with the aim of offering greater stability and superior durability.
